A new vision of transportA new vision of transport is emerging in Europe. A greater choice of transport options, self-driving cars, shared car rides, more eco-friendly vehicles, combined transport options (multimodality), and a much more integrated transport model overall promises to make the continent a global leader in the field. In a world where the population is growing and increased transport can negatively affect climate change, traffic management will play a very crucial role in overcoming transport-related risks and challenges. Against this backdrop, the EU-funded FRONTIER project, which was launched on 1 May 2021, brings together 19 high-profile partners from all over Europe, namely Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK, to empower a seamless transition to a new era in transport management. |

Discover FRONTIERFRONTIER aims to provide the network and integrated traffic management strategies of the future. It is taking into account new types of transport-automated vehicles that promise to minimise pollution and capacity bottlenecks, reduce accidents, and decrease the cost of mobility for all users (citizens, public authorities and businesses). FRONTIER is facilitating the transition towards resilient multimodal autonomous mobility by establishing the processes of collaboration and arbitration among stakeholders. It is developing the business models that will address the commercial viability of the identified solutions. FRONTIER will develop, apply and test autonomous management systems, based on advanced designs, that will constantly evolve using data generated from real-time monitoring of the transport system. This includes knowledge generated by operators and decision makers, as well as simulation models and solutions that will lead to new mobility services and technologies. |

| Synergies with other EU projects - the power of collaboration Synergies with other projects can have a great impact on the future developments of a project. The goal of collaboration with the projects that share common research interests and conduct research in similar topics is to collaborate in research, validate project’s concept, findings and advantages, gather ideas, transfer knowledge and share experiences with each other |

| Automated Vehicle Tech: The Future of Traffic Management Traffic congestion in cities continues to become more of an issue as populations grow and gridlock becomes a daily problem for many. What if everyone on the road was equipped with automated vehicles, where drivers could rely on smarter technologies that lessen traffic pressures, improve safety levels, and increase convenience while they make their journeys? |

FRONTIER together with the 4FRONT Cluster projects (TANGENT, DIT4TRAM and ORCHESTRA) and the MobiDataLab project co-organised an internal online workshop on Data Management. Each of the participating projects presented their own specificities in terms of best practices and challenges. After each presentation, interactive discussions took place. This extremely interesting and useful workshop actually paves the way towards greater cooperation of the projects with regards to data management and data governance practices, the common vision on this regard and the possible solutions to the challenges identified. The event took place on Thursday, 1 June, 14:00-16:00 CET. Download the 4FRONT Cluster flyer |

FRONTIER is excited to announce its participation at the Urban Mobility Days 2023! The Urban Mobility Days conference series provides the ideal opportunity to network, debate key issues, and exchange ideas on emerging transport trends and technologies, the latest developments in sustainable urban mobility planning, and solutions to make mobility in cities and towns more sustainable. Having a specific focus on transport skills, the Urban Mobility Days 2023 will take place in Seville, Spain from 4-6 October. The event is being organised together with the upcoming Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU.The conference combines two leading events from Europe’s transport calendar: the CIVITAS Forum and the former European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs). FRONTIER will be presented by its coordinating party, EURECAT, at the Pitch session on 6th October 11:30-12:00 CEST. The project will also share a booth with the 4FRONT Cluster projects at the event's exhibition. Our partners will be happy to explain our work and update on the current progress! Join us at the #UMD23! More about the event: https://transport.ec.europa.eu/urbanmobilitydays_en |

FRONTIER was present at the 2023 7th International Conference on Intelligent Traffic and Transportation (ICITT 2023) held in Madrid, Spain during September 18-20, 2023. We are thrilled to announce that the FRONTIER partner Georgia Gkioka (ICCS) presented a paper on AI-Driven Real-time Incident Detection for Intelligent Transportation Systems, for which she won an award for best paper presentation in the session. ICITT 2023 is the premier forum for the presentation of technological advances and research results in the fields of intelligent traffic and transportation. ICITT is becoming one of the leading international conferences for presenting novel and fundamental advances in the fields of intelligent traffic and transportation. It also serves to foster communication among researchers and practitioners working in a wide variety of scientific areas with a common interest in intelligent traffic and transportation and related techniques. FRONTIER proudly participated at the World Conference on Transport Research 2023 that took place on 17 - 21 July, 2023 in Montréal, Québec, Canada. The University of Antwerp represented FRONTIER presenting a paper on An overlooked dimension of Synchromodality: Unravelling its complex behavioural and organisational nature. The conference is an initiative of the World Conference on Transport Research Society. WCTR conference is held every 3 years since almost 50 years. The aims of the conference are to bring together experts in all areas of transport research from all parts of the world and to stimulate the exchange of ideas in the field of transport policy and practice. More information about the conference can be found here: http://wctr2023.ca |

FRONTIER, represented by its partner the University of Antwerp, participated in the BIVEC-GIBET Transportation Research Days 2023 that took place on Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2, 2023, in Leuven, Belgium, organised by KU Leuven. The University of Antwerp presented a a paper on An overlooked dimension of Synchromodality: Unravelling its complex behavioural and organisational nature. The event fosters members of the Benelux Interuniversity Association of Transportation Researchers (BIVEC-GIBET), as well as any other transportation researcher who studies Benelux-related issues in transport, to present their latest research. Bringing together leading experts and promising young researchers, the symposium offers an opportunity for scientific discussion and interaction in relatively small groups. It is therefore an excellent opportunity for researchers to collect feedback from peers in the domain who share a similar, Benelux-based perspective.
